Peace Day Austin is a collaborative grass roots initiative to explore, express, share, welcome, and celebrate what peace means to each of us as we travel from 9/11, a Day of Remembrance and Service, to 9/21, International Peace Day. Every year, millions of people and thousands of organizations across the world organize all kinds of events and activities to promote awareness of Peace Day, to encourage peace building, forgiveness, reconciliation, nonviolence, and dignity for all in their own local communities.
There are dozens of activities through out Austin celebrating these 11 days of Global Unity. Click HERE for more information about all the events.
The Austin Gay Men’s Chorus is excited to be represented by our small group TakeNote! at the Peace Day Press conference and proclamation with city leaders on Friday Morning, 9/20, at City Hall Plaza at 201 West 2nd Street. “Let there be Peace on Earth.”
The Chorus is excited to support this effort as the lack of peace disproportionately affects the disaffected, the poor, the forgotten peoples. We sing to build community that can and should extend far beyond the boundaries of central Texas.
The Chorus is excited to support this effort because “what peace means to us” includes the absence of interpersonal violence. Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgendered individuals disproportionately experience the absence of peace as they experience various levels of violence from simple bullying to state sponsored murder around the globe.
